WHAT TO EXPECT at PilatesPointDC:
-
Pilates in its original form – the way Joseph designed it and Romana Kryzanowska, Joseph's protégé, expanded the method
-
Systematic order of exercises
-
Linking exercises seamlessly with transitions, which results in flowing movement
-
Focusing on flow to develop stamina, endurance and muscle tone
-
Adapting the movements to EVERY BODY (from injured beginner students to elite athletes of all age)
-
Progressive and systematic sessions
-
Work with a quiet and focused mind
-
Training on ALL classical Pilates Apparatus (Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, Electric Chair, Arm Chair, Pedi Pole, Ladder Barrel, Spine Corrector, Small Barrel, Foot Corrector & small apparatus), invented and developed by Joseph Pilates (by Gratz Industries, L.L.C, and Pilates Designs by Basil)
-
Learning to gradually work independently through regular “homework” (mostly Mat exercises, since everybody nowadays has a mat at home). That way you progressively learn to own the work and can practice the Pilates Method in between the sessions, away from “Pilates Point DC”.

Did you know that Joseph Pilates called his method CONTROLOGY?
Contrology is a movement system that was created and named by Joseph Hubertus Pilates
“Trust the system! The system works!” - J. Pilates
The Pilates method of body conditioning has a goal to:
-
improve the ability of the deep muscles, the "Powerhouse", to guide and control the movement
-
improve motor control
-
focus on quality of movement over quantity
-
create and control movement within the functional range of motion without straining joints
-
promote stress relief
-
reduce chronic pain
-
improve posturetata event injury

"Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness. Our interpretation of physical fitness is the attainment and maintenance of a uniformly developed body with a sound mind, fully capable of naturally, easily and satisfactorily performing our many and varied daily tasks with spontaneous zest and pleasure.”
— Joseph Hubertus Pilates
BENEFITS AND GOALS
PILATES is a conscious way back to our bodies.
-
Healthier Life (Body-Mind awareness)
-
Alignment, Movement Pattern and Breathing are in direct connection with self-esteem, energy and Body “feeling”
-
In what directions do I move my spine in a Pilates session? You will learn to move you spine in so many different directions you never did before. Joseph Pilates used to say:
"You are only as old as your spine is”. In other words, if your spine is rigid at 18, you are old. If your spine is flexible at 75, you are young.
PILATES PRINCIPLES:
-
Concentration
-
Centering
-
Precision
-
Control
-
Breath
-
Flowing Movement
ENGRAMS:
Repeated moves become muscle memory and register in your brain. Did you know that a human body needs ca. 5000 repetitions in order to memorize the move? That is called motoric memory, which is vital to Pilates training.
“One of the major results of Contrology is gaining the mastery of the mind over the complete control of your body.” -
- Joseph Hubertus Pilates
